How I Went From UK Streets to Producing for Dr. Dre's Son in Hollywood, California
The untold story of a British producer who packed his equipment, crossed the Atlantic, and landed placements with West Coast legends — including Curtis Young, the son of Dr. Dre.

From Grimsby, England to the Studio with Dr Dre's Son
I'm from Grimsby, England. A small fishing town in the northeast. Growing up there I didn't listen to hip hop at all. I was more into rock music and dance slash EDM. That was the sound around me every day.
When we moved to the United States everything changed. My mother was dating somebody at the time who was a big hip hop head. He started playing American hip hop in the car on the way to school. Tupac. Makaveli. T.I.P. I'm Serious. He played those albums so much that I ended up knowing every single lyric to every song on both of them. I could rap along word for word without missing anything.
Once I got into music I gravitated straight towards hip hop and specifically the West Coast sound. It just clicked with me in a way nothing else had before. That early exposure in the car on the way to school planted the seed that would eventually change my whole life.
I've been playing the drums since I was ten years old. People always compliment me on my drums because they are always on point. That percussion background is a big part of why my beats hit the way they do. On top of that I've been on computers since 1996. So when it came time to learn a DAW it felt natural. I already understood music theory from years of playing drums and the computer side was easy for me to pick up and run with.
All of that combined is why I can work on a variety of genres. Trap, East Coast, West Coast, R&B, Midwest soul, and more. I don't just make one type of beat. I understand how music actually works and I bring real percussion experience to every session.
Meeting Curtis Young and Building the Relationship
Within months of being in California I started getting into sessions with artists I used to have on repeat. Then I got the call to work with Curtis Young, the son of Dr Dre himself.
That first session was a full circle moment. Here I was, the kid from Grimsby who grew up on rock and EDM, now in the studio with the offspring of one of the biggest legends in hip hop history. We clicked right away.
Since that first session we've built a real relationship. We've been in the studio working together many times. Some sessions were at Universal Studios, some at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, and a lot of them in my private studio where I get most of my work done.
Every time we link up it's the same energy. We build the beats from scratch. I lay down the drums first because that's my foundation, then we layer everything else while he's right there giving feedback in real time. It's real collaboration. Not just me sending beats over email. We create together in the room, bouncing ideas back and forth until it feels right.
Those sessions taught me so much about what West Coast artists actually want. And they showed me that the combination of my UK roots, my percussion background, and my early computer experience lets me deliver something different.
